May the 4th and May the 5th.
May 4th is international Star Wars day.
The first Star Wars movie was released on May 25th 1977, not on May 4th as many people think.
So the question is; why is May 4th international Star Wars day?
In the Star Wars movies, one of the groups of good people are called the Jedi.
Luke Skywalker is a Jedi.
The Jedi, believe a mystical power called the force, links all the universe. Jedi’s use the power of the force for good purposes.
When Jedi’s leave each other they don’t say “goodbye” instead they say “May the force be with you”.
There are number ways to write the date in English, for example:
4th May 20XX
May 4th 20XX
It is incorrect to write May the 4th, this is because “th”, “st”, and “rd” are a replacement for “the”.
When we say the date we can say:
“May 4th 20XX”
“4th of May 20XX”
“The 4th of May 20XX”
“May the fourth 20XX”
Because the spoken expression, “May the fourth” is pronounced like “May the force”, many Star Wars fans decided to make May 4th International Star Wars day.
However some people think May 5th is in fact Star Wars day.
In Star Wars the movies one group of bad people are called Sith Lords. These people also believe in the Force but use the power of the force to do bad things.
The sixth Star Wars movie was called “Revenge of the Sith”, and because sith sounds like fifth, people who prefer the bad charters in Star Wars celebrate May 5th and call it “Revenge of the Fifth”
